It is a Hall Effect sensor.
It doesn't touch.
The cable and the sensor comes as a complete unit.
The cable runs up to the speedo.
You have to buy a new one.
It costs $100.00 (Canadian).
Buy some ty raps too.
No special instructions required.
You can do it yourself.

Good Luck!

Default speedometer magnet....

Searching through the old stuff looking for similar problems...

Is there a way to test the Hall effect sensor before shelling out $100 for a new one?

Default speedometer magnet....

Heck I was told all I needed was a sensor for $49.99 looked up the part on Ronnie's and it is 4010298 for my 2000 Sportsman 500 non ho. I passed on replacing the part when it was last in the shop, because I did not think the speedo was that important. Then again it would be nice at times. I have been looking for one to show up on Ebay, but I am about to just have the shop order one for me.
