I've owned 7 quads........4 yamahas, a honda 250x, and now 2 Troy Lees Preds. Owned the first pred for a year and loved it so much I just traded off a sweet 404cc big bore dune prepped banshee for the second Troy Lee. The Banshee was a dream in the dunes, but as I only do about 5 dune trips a year, is it really worth having an incredible, yet single purpose built machine that you only ride a couple times a year?
The preddy (especially for the price) is a great ALL-AROUND quad. Its fun on a putt putt trail ride, a rip snort fast logging road blast, climbs most any dunes, and even play racing with buddies.
Pro racing like TT or MX might entail 5-10% of the ATV market. While a purpose built MX racer like a YFZ450 might be at home on the track, I've only heard horrible things about the hard seat and long trail rides. The Honda seems to be down a notch in the MX department, but will make a great all around quad too I'm sure.
The prices of these new machines is getting insane. $6899 for the YFZ, plus freight setup and tax makes it over $8,000 to get it into my shop. Ouch!
Dare to be different I say, and I love lining up and beating raptors on my predator. After owning 4 yamahas, I got tired of always breaking them, wrenching on them and getting reamed by overpriced parts.
So I went to the "dark side" and bought Polaris, and I've never been happier with a quad that always starts.
There is no 1 "perfect" quad, it's all about your pocketbook, riding style, and terrain application.

i gotta raise my hand and say hey, if you can spend x amount of $ on the r or the yfz, let me spend that much on a new pred, and lets compete. specially if you get into the 8 range, that covers quite the pile of mods on a pred.

People need to make up there mind about the 450r some people say it's slow others say it's fast like the one person said it has trouble keeping up with his predator on pavement yet dirtwheels said that the 450r barely lost to the yfz even though dirtwheels isn't too reliable but that means you would be saying your predator would beat the yfz which isn't happening.
What's up with the people whining about kick start its more reliable then electric start?
