Throttle problem
#1
A buddy of mine has a 400 2-stroke polaris, I'm not sure the exact model. I think it is about a 95 or so. The problem is, you give it gas and release the throttle and it just slowly releases. I took the cap off of the throttle assembly on the handlebars and I could see a spring in there at the bottom of the assembly but I could tell for sure if it was broke or not. Does this spring sound like the problem or is there a spring on the carburator that could be bad that causes the throttle to close. By the way, this particular model has something about an electronic throttle control on the throttle assembly. If you have any questions, by all means ask and I appreciate any help I receive.

I'm not sure that there is a spring in the throttle assembly on the bars, but there is one in the carb, that lifts the slide up and down. My guess is that the cable is pinched or just old and needs to be replaced. Wait and get some other opinions in here, because I'm not for sure. Throttle cables can be kinda expensive so don't jump to replacing it yet. You may try lubing the cable though with some cable lube.

Thanks man. I never even thought about the cable being pinched. It happend all of a sudden after a wreck so that might be the problem. I'll check into that. If anyone else has any suggestions, keep them coming.

Sometimes the slide inside of the carb can get a little "rusty" I have had mine not go up and down very easy and it is connected to the throttle, so that could be a possibility too. You can check that by unscrewing the top of the carb.
