I want to buy a predator the one im looking at is an 03. Is the tranny problem something im going to regret buying it for. also are scambler 400's fast or what that hrd has a 85 hp kit does the scrammy not rip with that. I thought i read once a stock scrambler was faster then a raptor in the short run. thanks

 

the 03's do have junk trannys but they aint that hard to fix... id go for an 04 if possible....
and no a scrambler is not faster than a raptor. but it will rip with the hpd kits.

 

The 03' tranny seems to be hit and miss. Some have problems, but LOTS have no problems at all....... We've been trying to find some sort of connection, but have come up with nothing yet. And by the way I've even heard of an 04' tranny failure.[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]

 

Yes there are a few lunched transmissions out there, but I wouldn't equate it to the predator being a lemon at all. I find it funny how hyped up this is getting to be.

How scared was I about my 03 Troy Lee Tranny being a time bomb? Scared enough to go out and buy a 2nd Predator!

You can kill any tranny, I've lost gears and shift forks in Warriors and Banshees too.........100% of the time it was my fault (usually drag racing) where you're banging through the gears too fast rushing shifts without using the clutch. Depends on the terrain too, as sand dunes or drag strips put alot more load on your tranny gears.

 

I've had my Pred. for over a year and no problems at all.....Great quad...
