Default ATP questions

My Dad is in the market for a new ATV. Currently he has a 95 400 6X6. It is still running like a champ, however he just broke the rear drive chain. Not bad for a 10 year old machine. Anyway, as most of you who know, this bike is huge, and is not the easiest to load on the back of my Fathers truck. We are going out this Sat to look at new machines and the ATP seems like the best option coming of a 6X6. I have no experience with them at all. Can someone give me a few comments on them like how is the ride, steering, power (330 vs 500). Any feedback is appreciated

Doesn't anyone own one of these machines? Or ever ride on or with one.

search for atp, not usually a lot of responses, but there is a good comparison between 600sp, and 500 atp. I like the sportsman myself, my pops had one. They are great all around machines. His was a 700.

Sep1, One of my hunting buddys dad has the 500ATP and it seemed to me it was just alittle longer Sportsman with a dump bed. When I was told that he was bringing a ATP (All Terrain Pickup) I thought it would be more like the 6x6, just with four wheels. It handled fine and he was able to go everywhere we went on on Suzuki's and Polaris's with no trouble at all. I like the little storage containers on the rear fenders and the trunk under the front rack is a great idea. His dad is around 65 and just getting into hunting and this was his second wheeler he has bought, the first was his sons Trailboss and he said it rode like a cadilac compared to the trailboss. I thought it was a well thought out rig. I do not know if this is any of the input you need but I ahve not seen much on this site pertaining to it so I thought to give you what little I know.AlaskaBoy.

P.S. The ATP carried the beer the best, was not all foamy upon opening. Could be because Adolph rides alittle less agressive.

Thanks for the replies. I will try a search. We are going to test ride both the 500 and 330ATP. I will let everyone know how they felt. I will compare them to my 700 as well.

The ATP wasn't meant to be a speed demon. It's a work atv that can also be used for trail riding and hunting. Polaris designed a very nice machine. The 500 HO is in the larger ATP, plenty of power! The rear differential was designed by Dana who designs diffs for heavy trucks. It gives you AWD, Turf mode for tight turns and 2 wheel drive. The rear axle is very heavy duty.
The front has storage box 2 storage compartments on the side and a dump box. You can also buy a flat bed for it.
Overall it's a great machine for working or hunting. Very multipurpose.
It also won ATV of the year from ATV magazine. quite an honor i'd say.

as a former owner of a Sportsman6X6, the first thing i noticed about the all-new ATP is the long-travel seat. on my old 6X6, it was very short and had very limited front to back body english. this has been addressed on the new ATP. you could actually squeeze 2 people on it if you wish.

the bed on the ATP is much smaller then the 6X but seems to have a better designed, more solid tailgate. the ATP rear axle is a big plus if you plan to ride on well-groomed grass. it's top-notch.

i have not purchased an ATP. but i have considered one. i've looked VERY closely at them. but my needs for a dump body are satisfied by pulling my JohnDeere trailer around with my 700EFI. the ATP bed seems too small to suit MY needs.

the lack of a fuel gauge and color choice was a detractant for me as well. please keep in mind that that's just my humble opinion though.....

the ATP is a VERY well built and VERY well designed.

i'd like to see one with the new 29" Outlaws all-'round! now that would be one NASTY ATV!.....i mean ATP! LOL

Okay the 330 and 500 are just exactly the same except the 500 has more power, and can hold more weight. THey ride and handle exactly the same. Between the 2 the 500 will be the best option because that way you can have a little fun with it and you will able to haul anything with it. the Front rack is nice to throw stuff on the rear box is great for putting all your tools, ice chest, animals u hunted, etc... THe nice feature is the storage in the fenders they make like little coolers. The atp will not ride as smooth as the sportsman because it uses a staight axle in the rear. Another nice feature is the turf mode. You have 4x4, 2x4, and turf mode. When in turf mode you have a much tighter turning radiius because the rear axle is not locked so 1 wheel spins. thats whats best about the atp.
