Just a word of caution to everyone. A friend of mine just took his 2000 Sportsman 500 to the shop to get some work done on it. The rear brake quit working, the gear shifter wasn't working properly, and one of the front brake seals was leaking. Now be advised he has only had the bike for a month and it has approximately 13 hours on it and maybe 50 miles. Well the shop fixed the gear shift and the front brake seal all under warranty. His father,(who also uses the bike) got a phone call from Polaris. They asked him some questions about the bike and then informed him they would not warranty the rear brake because it was driven through water and it got wet. The man advised that the reason the brake quit working was because it got wet. Now isn't that a load of BS!.It costs $193.00 to replace the rear brake and according to the guy from Polaris it will have to come out of their pocket.

Well my friend advised he's going to call Polaris Monday and speak with the guy. He's going to tell him that in the video sent with the bike and the manual it tells and shows how to cross streams that will get the brake wet. He's also going to tell Polaris if they don't warranty the brake, he will post messages on every ATV site and inform the public that Polaris does not stand behind their product nor do the make products that will stand up to somthing as simple as riding through WATER. Well I just thought I'd pass this information on to all of you Polaris owners, me being one myself. So that you don't ride through some water and get your brake wet. I'll keep you posted on what happens after Monday.

Are you sure that this call was straight from Polaris, the first thing you should have did was ask his name and then ask to talk to his supervisor and then got his name...See what you can do with this and post us a number on here this is about the most rediculous thing I have ever heard in my life...are you sure the call wasn't just from your dealer...anyway like I said leave us an email or phone # for who ever you talked to at Polaris there is a bunch on here I would say that would be glad to talk to them and tell them if the Polaris wasn't meant for water that we would be gladly changeing to Honda or some similar brand...This really sounds like something that comes from the dealer h#ll it even tells you in the book when rideing in water frequently that grease jobs should be more frequent...

atving, your post reminds me of the little boy's plea to "Shoeless Joe" Jackson, when informed the baseball hero had taken money to throw the World Series:

"Say it ain't so, Joe!"

I join you, hoping also it ain't so.

PTLM,
dealer or not, dont take that BS from either.Get your butt on the phone and DEMAND someone take responsability for the rear brake. As for the water crossing causing the brake problem thats all BS to.

Polaris has a real problem with their standard brakes. They should'nt even install standard duty brakes on any of their quads. They make severe duty pads that will double the life of the standard duty pads.Dont give up on this one.====Bill

I just talked to my friend Chris and he said he believes the man his father talked to, was from Polaris. He stated that his friend works at the dealership and he would have been the one to call about the warranty and it was not him. He also said his father was given a phone number to the main office for Polaris and is calling Monday. He was told they would not warranty the work on the front brakes either, because of the same problem with them getting wet. I'm glad my brakes have been holding up, and I've taken my Sportsman through alot more than Chris has, including alot of water and mud. I'll keep you guys posted on the out come.

When you make that phone call tell the guy at Polaris to come and look at this post and tell him I will see how fast I can trade my Sportsman in for a Rubicon if they don't guarantee them for going through water. If this is true this is about the biggest bunch of hog Sh#t I have ever heard I think I will even call Polaris...I am like Bill C. they should be dealing with the d#m problem they have on the brakes now instead of trying to screw somebody out of there money for driveing through water hope this don't catch on with the car companys...I will have to stop driveing that Ford in the rain since the brakes aren't guaranteed...sheesh give me a #J@!%^ break.

Warranty is only as good as the dealer. They should have replaced the brake at no charge and fought with the company them selves. Thats what they are there for.
