Default Advanced timing on a Scrambler 500

I spoke with a guy the other day who claimed to have advanced the timing on his Scrambler 500ho by 3 degrees. Claimed it boosted the performance a noticable amount. Has anyone else done this? Does it work?

The scrambler has an automatic ignition advance, from i think 5 degreesBTDC to 30 degreesBTDC @5,000rpm...

If you advance the timing to far you will get preignition and you dont want that.........
