Default Scrambler 500 in the sand?

Hey guys! I had ordered 3 quads from the Polaris dealer here in the UAE, and got all excited today when the dealer called and told me the next lot of ATV's was now in the country. I went to the dealer and was then told that NO Predators where shipped, and the Trailblazer was 10 pieces short, and the Predators due for the next shipment where pulled as well. I asked if this was due to the brake problem that i have read about here and they had no clue what i was talking about. So, No Preddy for me, and no TrailBlazer for the wife, the only thing that we ended up getting was my daughters Predator 50, which we can pick up in about a week, once it makes it's way to the dealer.

The dealer has many Scrambler 500's, 4x4's are not really all that big here, and offered to give us a deal on them, since the other 2 did not arrive, and they are paid for. So, how well are the Scrambler 500's in the sand? I live in the desert, so that is the only terrain i will travleing on. I do not really want a Scrambler, but to get the Preddy i will most likely have to waite until Aug-Sept to get it now. So, if any body could give me some reviews of the Scrambler 500 in the sand that would be great. All of the ATV's will be equiped with Maxxis Rooster's front and rear, except for the 50.

Thanks Chris

I have a blast in the sand with my Scrambler 500. It is not the best duner, but it is still loads of fun. Those paddle tires are not right for the Scrammy. Not only do they not come in a 22" which the Scrammy needs for smooth function of the 4x4, but they are too small for it's torque. You really will want a 22" paddle tire or it will suck. I run SandStars and have been extremely pleased with them. I have also tried 22" Kenda dune runners. They are good, but not great. Tried 22" SkatTrak edges. Great tire. Hope this helped.

Fishslab

Thanks for the info. I will have to re-check with the dealer here, all the sand tires they have at the dealer are Maxxis, never even payed attention to the size, thanks for the heads-up. With the extra heft of the Scrambler do you get bogged down much in the sand, cuz the sand here is like a fine granulated powder? Most of the guys I will be running with ride 350 Banshees and a couple of Raptors, that is the main purpose of wanting the Preddy, and i do not want to be the anchor of the group. I will ask around for those ITP's.

On the Scrammy you would be the slowest of the quads you named. You will have to learn your limitations. There will be hills they can get up, but you can't. The Predator would be a much better match with those bikes. But I sure would rather be out riding a Scrambler than sitting at home waiting for any other quad. If it's a money issue and you only have the choice of one or the other you'd be better off waiting for the Predator. You might look at getting the Scrambler now and selling it when the Predators arrive.

One other thing I thought of is, if you get a real sweet deal on the Scrambler you can look into getting the FST 600 kit for it. It is supposed to make the Scrambler a real beast. You can give Mickey Dunlap a pm and he usaully answers them. Just do a search for his name and click the lock icon in one of his posts to do a pm. Oh yeah welcome to the forums!

My .02, get the Scrammy for your wife and hold off for a Pred for yourself. The scrambler is a good bike but not quite enough for me in the sand, I love my Pred in the sand. My wife has an 01 Scrambler and goes up anything at Pismo (Thats not saying much but it does great and its auto for her). I dont reccomend a Trailblazer in the sand at all, they are gutless.

Ya I would get the scrammy for now..to hold you over then sell it to get the pred...for dune riding I would defenetly go with something lighter...plus the 4x4 doesn't really help you in your situation so thats sort of a waste...now if you did trail riding and stuff then I would say the scrammy would be great because I love mine..but I think you would be a lot more pleased with the pred..IMO

Thanks for the replys guys!

Fishslab- Money is not really a problem, all three quads that where ordered are paid for, now for getting the scrambler now and selling it later, I would not fare-well at all in that deal, that is if i could even sell it, like i said 4x4 quads no matter the brand do not sell well here, so i would only be able to sell it for about 25% of the original price if I am lucky, owning less than 6 months, and Polaris really is not the favored bike either here by a long shot, so that makes it that much harder. I looked up that FST 600 and Mickey Dunlap, nothing came up for Mickey, but i read the thread on the FST 600 and the crossover at paatv, sounds good, but again i am half way around the world and not really into sending motor or parts through that kind of system, and i am not sure how reliable/competent they are the techs are here.

spoolnaround- That option did come up, but the wife does not feel comfortable enough on the 500.

I think we are just gonna hold out and wait for what we ordered to come in. There is really only less than a month of riding here anyway, it is already over 100 degrees, so even if i got the scrambler i would only be able to ride it for about 2-3 weeks, then it will sit for the summer until around sept. i know if i buy the scrambler now i will be kicking my self in the rear come Sept. knowing i could have been on the Predeator.

Thanks for all your input guys. Appreciate it!

chris
