I need some guidance here on using yard implements with my 700. I understand the tow rating is 1500 lbs. My concern is using a box blade/disc/etc and the overall strain on the engine and drivetrain. While the yards tools would be under the weight of 1500 lbs, what is being actually felt by the ATV? If you are following my thinking here please let me know what you think. I just got a great machine and don't really want to tear it up in the long run. I understand the break in time and will be using the yard implements later on after the proper time has passed.

 

Hey, you should not have a problem.....I'm in the lawn & landscape business. I have used my quad for lawn work at home. But for costumers I use my 24 horse deisel mower....but before that I used my 10 horse briggs wheel horse. And it's been through alot, and still use it because it has high and low range.

 

If it were me I would borrow a small disc just to see how the atv pulls with the disc engaged. The motor has more than enough power to pull things that ride over the ground but I would like to try the ground engaging stuff before I bought. Although in low range it should be fine, I like to be sure before I lay down money.

 

As long as you use low range when you should, then there shouldnt be any problems. The Polaris machines have a strong drivetrain. Just look at the ATV pulls. You will always see Polaris quads in the top rankings

I use my Sportsman 500 for a lot of this kind of work and it has never been a problem and has held up fine. Using a bow scraper, grader blade or just a drag the only time I have any issue is when they are really digging in and the dirt is building up a lot against the blade and causing the implement to dig even deeper. But it's just a matter of raising it and letting some of the extra dirt slide off and move the implement over it then it's back to work. Using a disk is even simpler mainly since the dirt doesn't build up and cause resistence against the device. Mine Sportsman is a 2000 and so far using it for this kind of work has never been a problem.

 

When I first brought my Quadzilla home my father asked "You suppose I could put a tow hitch on that?", and "Oh, it doesn't have reverse or electric start, then what good is it?", and finally, "You're uncle Doug said that's just for racing, so why do you need it?" Just to **** off the neighbors, Dad, just to **** off the neighbors......

 

All I know is that I have 3 acres of yard to mow..I have a yardman and it takes about 2 and a half hours...I would love to have a little bush hog for my scrammy...make mowing a lot funner and a lot quicker!

Currently I'm useing my 700 to log. I have a Nichols Logging arch and pull out 20+" full length trees. I haul about 15 cords a week. I've found that in low range the only problem is traction. The machine is bullet proof. I do have to replace belts a little sooner, but that's a minor expense.
