A Few Plowing Tips, Please?
#1
Hello,
I was wondering if you guys plow in high or low gear, and if plowing in the wrong gear can badly hurt your ATV.
Also, does anyone have the Glacier Plow System?
---Is it all hype, or does it really come off and on quickly, and perform just as(or better)than the traditional sportsman plow frame?
Is anyone running a 56" one way blade? Can you still angle your plow in five positions, or does it just plow to your right?
I know they call it a one way blade, but can you still plow to your left?
---Ive been meaning to get one of these, they look sweet.

I have the Glacier Plow w/ 48" blade on my SP400. The plow really does come on and off in 30 seconds tops. It's a breeze. I can't compare it to any other system but it worked great for me this winter. As far as using high or low, I found that as long as the snow wasn't too wet (heavy) I would keep it in high and plow pretty fast. This seemed to throw the snow off to the side better. The only small problem that I have found is with the lever used to angle the blade. I have the front brushguard and the lever hits it when the plow is lifted all the way up. Have read that others have just cut about 1/2" of the lever and problem solved. I haven't done that yet but I will try it. Overall, I have been very happy with the Glacier.

The glacier plow system is definately nice. I looked at it for my sportsman but I got a better deal on my Cycle country plow. The glacier hookup is for real but the truth is I can have my Country plow on in less then a minute if I want to. Its just a matter of hooking up the winch and pushing to pins in. I have plowed all winter with mine and have only used low once or twice. And that was pushing some old frozen plow piles off of the sidewalk. I love my plow! Have hardly touched the snowblower all year. So much quicker its amazing. Jay

I would plow in low as much as you can but like the other posts have said, if the snow is light, plow faster in high.
I had a 2002 HO with the Polaris plow. It wasn't to bad to hook up although once in awhile it would act up. I just got the 2004 HO and Glacier system and mounted the plow last night. It is as easy as it looks in the video that Polaris has on line. I will never have to get on my knees to lock it in place like the old system. If you have a choice I would recommendt the Glaicer.
The 56" one way doesn't change direction. The 48, 54 (many angles) and the 60 will plow left or right.

So far I lost 1 walkway light, 1 license plate frame (plastic) and a little bit of grass. But hey, I lost that stuff with my snowblower also. LOL. I think any of the new plow systems are pretty good these days. But the best part is playing before/after your done. I have gotten alot of use with the plow this year and if I dont have to muscle that pig of a snowblower anymore thats fine with me.. Good luck in your decision and have fun ridin. Bob

I have been plowing in high, no problems. Also, if you haven't bought your plow yet be sure to get the 60" one. You can never have a big enough plow! When you angle the smaller ones your tires will be riding on un-plowed snow!!!!!

Catterman, can you measure how wide the plow is when it is angled all the way please...I have to make a comparison...do you think i have 4 inches to spare? I wanna get a 56" One-Way...
How fast can you ride in Low Gear until your ATV get's Jacked Up????
(I'm talkin 2004 sportsman 700's, EFI)
Bytor.....Do you still need the rod that hits your brush guard if you were to buy the remote blade angle control?
Does anyone have this feature on their plow? Does it perform well?
Thanks alot guys.......

I'm new at this so don't take my thoughts as Gospel but I read the Polaris manual and it said to plow in low. Something about the automatic transmission belt, that it will last longer. Hey, what do I know? Oh yeah, I plowed for the first time the other day and it was a BLAST. I did our 100 foot long double width driveway with additional parking area in 15 minutes. The snowblower always took over an hour.

The philosophy behind plowing in low gear is purely for the long term effects on your belt. Take care of the belt, the belt will take care of you. Just as you should ride in low gear when driving at slower speeds.
I have the glacier system with the 60" blade. As Catterman said, a shorter blade when angled will dump the pile of plowed snow right into the path of your tires.
