That is why I am becomming an engineer, first off to make more money than farming...and second off because I always can find something that breaks..and I want to fix those things first. However, I feel you were making fun of me, and that is fine...this guy can listen to whoever he wishes.

Ok, this post just got wayyy tooo expensive for my taste. At about $25 a pop, it'll cost more than my payment on the pred. I guess that's what you get for riding a lot, huh. I just hope my engine isn't screwed up. I hope this oil change takes care of it, cuz Im planning a pretty long ride 2 days from now. Thanx for the help guys.

I owe a half apology to the forum... I opened up my 2004 manual tonight to check.
On Page 70 of the Predator manual, it says 1 hour of operation followed by 2 hours of cautious riding.
On Page 107 of the Predator manual, it says 1 hour of operation, period.
Maybe somewhere in between is the best bet.

Just an update... I changed the oil and the ticking was still there. The more I rode it afterwards, it seems like the ticking got a lot quieter. Both of my buddies raptors tick louder and also my other buddies yfz does too, so now I'm not worried about it. I guess I'm probably just a little paranoid with it being my first quad and all. Thanx for any input though.

Shaman, you are still in the dark ages. The new four strokes put a lot of stress on the parts and contaminate the oil fast. The more you change it the longer it will last. The new honda does'nt hold much oil and better get it changed after every race. You would have a problem with a 450 honda, as it is recomended to change the piston after 15 hour's. Thats about how long you think you should go on an oil change.

Thanks Jammer, but as you know, the Predator isn't a YFZ or a TRX. The Predator engine design has a longer (ok, not much longer) piston skirt design and standard valves. Sure it needs frequent oil changes, but it has 30% more oil capacity than the YFZ, for example. It isn't black and white.
Wait until the trail riders with the YFZ and TRX start discovering that they can audibly hear piston slap at the end of their first season of riding.
