Default 1999 Sportsman 500 clutch spring

Greetings,

My primary spring is the stock blue one. This thing just doesnt get up and go like I feel it should. Any suggestions on a diff spring? I am not a young boy that wants to do wheelies and jumps...just looking for a little better engagement and performance.
Any other suggestions for this?

Thanks,

Opus

Try a Polaris White or Green spring. The green will give a little more than the white.

Guess I should ask what is involved changing it. Got the cover off now, had to get the starter rebuilt.

I assume I need a puller? I have a Skidoo primary puller but doubtful that would work. Never messed with primarys at all.

After you get the clutch cover off just unbolt the 6 small bolts and then the 1 big one in the middle, then take off the plate, then the primary spring will slip right out then u stick the new one in and put it all back together.
Good luck!

Cool...no spring tension that will send the spring through my head and stick it against the wall, huh?

What will this accomplish? I have a99 sport 400 2 stroke. Are the clutches the same?

Im in the same boat as Opus. I dont want to change the clutch. It goes but I also trail ride with my kids on a 87 trx 70. So I need it to go slow when I want to but also when I ride with out the kids to pick up and run. Im not looking for top speed but dont want to loose a lot of top speed. Now its stock and that is fast enough for me.

When you talk about engaugment, you are saying that it will catch and drive quicker? or will it give it like a lower side like more torque and then speed up? Im new at polaris and still learning about the clutches.

Thanks for your help.
