Once again my 00' Scrambler 500 has a cracked transmission! This is the second time and I've only ridden it a dozen times. The first time it was covered under warranty and the dealership couldn't figure out want caused it, so they replaced the cracked half. There where no signs of hitting anything, I didn't throw a chain, and there weren't any impact marks? The same side cracked today, I was climbing a sand hill and when I was at the bottom waiting for a couple of buddies, I noticed the tranny was pissing on the ground. Again, it cracked on the side, not in front of the sprocket, no impact marks, no chain break, nothing!!!!! I'm literally sick over this thing, I baby it like my 2yr old daughter. My friends bust my go nads because I wash it after every ride. In the trails I ride it like an ATV, thru water crossings, in some mud, up some sand hills, etc.. Nothing my friends don't do with there 400 scrambler, 300ex, and 250x. I spent $5,700 for this thing, and now I think I bought a lemon. In 12 rides since May 00' when I bought it, I've had a loose front hub, 2 cracked tranny's, and a ripped seat cover where it rubs against the fender. As polaris owners how would you feel if you were in this situation? Would it be to much to ask polaris for my money back, or a totally new 00' scrambler 500, or how about 5,700 towards a sportsman 500. I love the thing to death when it's running, but I'm disgusted with it's reliability.

I'm going to the dealership tomorrow. I plan on having a long talk with the owner who happens to be a nice guy, so far. I will have my daughter with me just in case I lose it! I will then call the rep that helped me with my first cracked tranny and see what he has for options.

Thanks alot, I may need that. I didn't get much sleep last night. We'll see how it goes today. I had hoped for alittle more responses from the polaris owners on this one. 140 views and only 2 of you responded, I realize this isn't a very good posting for polaris but it's the truth and it's happening to me. They should give you full value towards a new atv and be happy that you are not seeing a lawyer or changing manufacturers.

I talked to the rep about people cracking tranny cases.

And he just looked at me funny..And said we haven't heard anything about it, since we put that plastic gaurd above the sprocket.

My Trailblazer chain knocked a nice hole in my case. My chain also came off and knocked a piece of metal off of lip around the hole that holds the swingarm bolt in..

It seems to me they do have a big problem with this. And something more needs to be done.

It seems like you did get a lemon. My Xplorer had a few "quirks" when I first got it, but the dealer took care of them under warrenty.

They even took care of a couple of things outside of the warrenty date. All that was needed was a lot of complaining.

You have my support!!!

Thanks guys. I brought it to the dealer and he didn't have much to say. What the hell could he say? He felt bad and put in a call to polaris. When I got home I called Polaris and spoke with a guy named Corey from tech services, he stated he needed to talk to the dealership direct so he could figure out what was causing it to crack. He needed to see if there was a defect, maybe a missaligned swingarm or something. Either way I don't care to turn the key on that particular polaris ever again, I hope. For the mean time I guess I'll have to wait for the final answer. Do me a favor and start to ask around your dealerships about this problem, again, I didn't break the chain, the case cracked on the side of the case not in front of the sprocket. Give Corey a call at polaris if you feel like it, he has been very cooperative so far, I'd like polaris to know that we all stand together here. I made a choice in buying a polaris I hope they make a choice in helping me out instead of just replacing the tranny and hoping for the best. Thanks Craig.

Cracked Transmission Case?

Was the quad used "to get massive air time?"

How does one flex the frame hard enough to crack a transmission case?

I noticed you mentioned sand hills.

Something is missing here.
