Please help me out here. I read about all of the great mods for Polaris machines from RCR and others. What I do not understand is if a pipe or clutch kit, or air filter replacement can make such a dramatic improvement in performance, why doesn't Polaris set them up like that out of the box? I understand some mods are for low end or high end. That makes some sense as Polaris wants to target the "general" public, but some mods claim to improve performance accross the board. If this is so wouldn't Polaris, being a billion dollar company. be able to get this performance from the start?

I am all for mods if they work and do not reduce engine life. I just have not gotten a good answer to the questions above from any of my friends.

Thanks

Well, with some mods, they do tend to reduce reliability. And , as you said, these machines are really meant for the general public. That includes first time riders, which would not be able to handle some of the mods.
Another big thing is, people like to modify their machines to their liking. Most of these products that say broad increase acrossed the board, well, that is usually not the case.
And if a company offered all the mods on the machines from factory, then there would be no room for the aftermarket.
And I think the biggest reason, is price. Some of these mods are expensive. Manufacturers try to find the least expensive method of building the machines. So they go with inexpensive, easy to produce items.
