ya they are fine for trail riding... a z400 or raptor may be better... reverse and a much softer ride.

Reverse is nice to have in certain instances. I for one have gotten along without it very well. I don't really use reverse on my Scrambler either though. The ride can be stiffer, if you don't know what you are doing with suspension setup. I for one love to trail ride with mine, comfortable to ride all day long.

Depends on what you mean by "trail riding." I've had mine in some state forests where the trails are wide (almost roads). It's a blast there!

I've also had it on some tight trails, barely wide enough for the quad, with plenty of twists and turns. It's still fun to ride there, but you'll find the gears a little tall in those situations (this can be fixed with a sprocket change).

I never missed not having reverse.

Yep, a sprocket change in some areas is a must for more fun. The Predator will grunt out of any corner, even if you miss a gear change, but a different sprocket helps a lot for the lower end grunt. It's easy to get the Predator through tight corners though with the way you can 'steer' it from the back tires!!
