Default problem with lights

My lights just stopped working for some reason. At the same time my battery has taken a dump. do you have to have a battery in order for the lights to work on the Scramblers. Could this be the problem, and do you have any suggestions?

Default problem with lights

My Scammy had blown 2 sets of lights, and they are not cheap.

I think I have narrowed it down to a defective light switch.

We'll see.

Well, I dont' know what happened and it is weird, but all my lights (brake light, some dash lights, and both head lights) blew at the same time... I didn't think that it was a blown bulb because all stoped working at the same time. I thought that would be to much of a coincidence. i am not sure what would cause this. I bought a tail light for a buck. How much are the head lights, and where can I purchase them. Are they regular automotive, or something speacial?

Well the first thing to ask is the battery the cause or just the symptom????

If the battery is the cause replace it and make sure the charging system is working ok.

If it is a symptom the charging system needs to be checked:
a)the voltage regulator which is mounted near the Radiator
b) all fuses and fusible links ( a wiring schematic is helpful)
c)check all connections
d)and pray it isn't the stator (but if the machine runs it usually isn't bad)
f) double check all connections especially the ground cables from the frame to the engine and frame to the battery

I lost lights and fan because of a bad conection on the voltage regulator; and my Bro-inlaw lost a stator because the ground strap from the Engine to the frame broke, this acted like your machine until a wire started to melt in the stator

as long as the quad is running you don't need the battery for the lights to come on. I had no battery for about a month, and rode with the lights on at night. Hope this helps
