2004 400 sportsman. Is this normal?
#1
I was out riding yesterday and the thing just quit. I thought maybe out of gas so I switched to reserve. I tried to start it but no go. Tried every minute or two for 10 minutes and it finally started. Is it normal to be hard to start after starving it for fuel & switching to reserve?
Or might I have another problem? I'm not really sure if it ran out of fuel. I also dunked it in about 18" of water but that was 10 or 15 minutes earlier

I have never had a problem starting mine after running it out of fuel. Dunking it in 18" of water should not of had any influence on it. I have all though fouled spark plugs after running in a lot of water. Fouled plugs are always hard on starting.

Yup its normal.. Several posts about it. After you fill up your tank next time, turn it on to reserve for a minute and then back to on, this way your reserve line is full and if you run out, will have enough in it to help prime the pump, which seems to be the problem. It seems that mostly just the newer machines suffer this problem, or am I wrong?

Out tonight and all is fine. Ran it on reserve for a bit, then normal & then shut the fuel off and ran it till it died. Started up fine after.
Think your right Ron... Thanks
