there are two bolts at the end of your swingarm. If you look, you can see that these two bolts tighten and are what hold the axle on. Loosen these bolts. If you look at how the axle goes into the axle housing, you will see that it is offset. The whole axle housing will twist. When you are done, tighten the bolts. dont jack the back up when you adjest the housing, because it wont adjest correctly. This is kinda hard to explain, i hope i helpedCLICK FOR DIAGRAM- the bolts you need to loosen are number 27

they turn hard, you'll need leverage on it, try using a wrench, pliers, etc.? anything that will fit around it. You might have to pull kind of hard. Also, on the side of the axle housing, you can see two stops, meaning it wont turn freely. See if on of these stops is stopping the movement, than turn it the other way. What chain did you buy for a replacment?

Looking at it from the back your brake caliper is on the left side of the axle. It must be loosened as well. It is bolt #12 in this diagram. The axle wont budge if it's not loose. Make sure your parking brake is not on too.

I'm not familiar witht he scrammy, but most other Polaris's you can stick a screwdriver through the axle sprocket into the rear housing with the bolts loose, then spin the rear tire and axle turning the concentric. Like I said though, I've only done this on older Polaris's

Your caliper mounting clamp may not be tight. It usually does not allow the axle carrier to spin.
