I have a buddy that wants to switch to syn. ATV oil. He has a 2001 350 Warrior. He has never used syn. oil before. Will this make his engine leak if he switches to syn?

He wants to change it before we ride this weekend....has anyone used reg. oil and switched to syn. oil?
Please someone help this poor guy out....I know he rides a Warrior but please help him[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]...LOL

 

yes ive done that... and no it didnt leak... and i dont see why it would either...

 

Me either....I told him to do it. He has had alot of people to tell him it would start leaking.

 

i just saw the post in the yamaha forum....
i dont think it will happen to a quad engine... JMO
unless something isnt a tight as it should be anyway.

 

He takes good care of it.....as you can see on the pictures. I don't think he will have a problem. Thanks Hozed

 

Ok, synthetic oil will not make your engine leak, in fact it is a superior lubricant. BUT... just to let you know i have been told that once you change to synthetic you can not go back to regular oil. also to let you know, i used to be a high speed test driver for GM, and the mechanics there said that synthitic is a better oil, keeps your engine cooler and lubricates better and we always used mobil 1. I know this could be up for debate but after 6 years of being a test driver during that time i never had an engine blow on me

 

Thougth I saw something that says he (Yam) has a wet clutch, and that the oil might not work. Don't have a Yam, but thought I saw a post about this in their forum. Might want to do a search and see. Seems like they said it would be OK for the motor, but not the clutch.

 

If the quad has a wet clutch setup you will need to make sure the syn. oil is ok for wet clutches. Amsoil has a motorcycle specific oil 10w-40 and a ATV specialty oil 0w-40 that are safe for wet clutches. You have to be careful of this in dino oil as well. The detergents they put in "automobile" oil can sometimes have an ill effect on the bikes clutching. Deal with this all the time with our Bikes. Jay

 

it depends, in cars if the car is really old and u switch to syn oil, its possible it could leak. cause its diff type of oil and its syn. but there shouldnt be a problem in his quad.

 

If the motor were to start leaking due to switching to synthetic oil then you have more problems then a simple oil leak and are in need of a physical repair to the motor.
