Default Its finaly happened

Hi to all
Writing from new brunswick and my buddy just purchased a 650 kawi, repacing his tank (450 es). I have a 2000 500 scrammy and have enjoyed the upper hand for the last 3 years. I have read alot of the forum and it seems that mods get you there quicker but do not increase top speed. I dont want to sell, i love my bike. My question is what to do, to keep my old girl and go bye this new tank!

If it was a 2x Scrammy you could get a bigger front or smaller rear sprocket for more top-speed. And I think with the right pipe/clutch kit you can gain about 5mph on the top, plus faster acceleration.

he got the prarie 650 right?your scrambler 500 will stay right with him if not ahead of him on the trails.the only place he will really have the edge is in the deep mud.IMO

Well, other than the obvious, slice the tires and sugar in the gas tank, you've got a lot of choices. Pipe, clutch kit, gearing, intake (carb, filter), milling, porting. The question is, how much is it worth to you.

I had both a 02 650P and a 98 Scrambler 500 4X4. The 650 had the black primary and a K&N w/ jetting mods. The SCR 500 had a HPD clutch and pipe also with K&N and jetting mods. In a drag the SCR would always get the hole shot and out accelerate to about 50mph or 200 yds, then the 650 would catch it, but not pass and they would end up pretty even in 300 + yrds. As far as mud they both did pretty well. If you think about it the 650P is Kawi's version of a Scrambler with low range. They both have similar ground clearance and handling characteristics. Bottom line is to stay in front of your buddy you need to spend $500-$600 on the Scrambler. Your buddy however needs to spend less then $50.00 to catch back up to you. If he buys the new CDI for the 650 it's a lost cause unless you get a big bore kit from 4stroke tech.
