Default suspension?

are you talking about tightening or loosening the suspension?

Default suspension?

The tool is probably the best way. I have used large channel lock pliers before. I real good tip here is to unload the suspension first. Lift the rear of the quad either from the grab bar or with a quad jack or jackstand in the center of the quad. The idea is to lift the rear without putting pressure on the swingarm. This reduces the tension on the spring and makes adjusting much easier.
