What, if anything, don't you like about the Magnum? I know you haven't had any problems, but why would you want to change one 500 for another? I'm not too familiar with the Magnums. How are they different from the Sportsman? If you are going to make a change then go for the bigger displacement and make it worth while.

In a drag race their pretty close, but when their pullin something heavy, you can feel that the 600 has more torque

I have had both the 600 first now the 500HO the 500 beats the 600 off the line to about 40 MPH power wise not enought diffrence the 500 is more reliable go with the 500.

As far as I know, the Magnum has a solid rear axle, not the IRS like the SP's. I think that's it, other than the H.O. has a little more power over the regular 500.

P.S. I guess I shoulda done a search before posting my $500 question thread!! Oops!!

I have a 04 500HO and luv it! Both my buds have 700's...With all the weight the 700 has I can stay right with them all day and the 500 is much lighter feeling and more manoverable (sp?) ...

I doooo like the smoothness of the twin and the engin break isnt as stiff...But I still like the 500...It hasnt let me down ....and I can go every where the big boys go and somtimes more..like in the snow!!

if i was you i would save some money and just buy the carb to fit the 500 ho and put it on your mag. It would give you the same power as the 500 ho and no one would know that you did it. What a surprise when you pull up next to another 500 ho or beat the 600 on the line.

i think the 500 and 600 are equally terrific ATVs. you can't go wrong with either one imho.

if the price is close between both, why not take the 600?

(Ragged, EXCELLENT pics man!)

I currently have both, and if I had to do it all over agian, I would go with the 500 HO. The 700 is only a tiny fraction quicker than the 500ho, and while it has more torque for turning the bigger tires, the 500 is no slouch. the only thing I like better on the 700 is the seat is a little more comfy. On the 500 it seems like I'm sitting higher and more forward, looking down over the handlebars.
My 700 has been nothing but trouble. water pump leak, fan sensor, radiator hose tee ruptured, crank seal, FOUR broken front axles. I dont know of anyone having that many problems with the 500ho.
If the Magnum 500 has been good to you, I would keep it. The only difference really is the rear GC, and thats still a great machine with the live axle in back. Maybe you could put a power kit or a clutch kit and some new tires on it, then it would be like a new ride, maybe satisfy your need for better performance.
