pros/cons of white primary clutch spring vs. stock clutch spring
#1
First, i was just looking at my clutch, and i have a gold/bronze primary clutch spring. Is this the stock one? I read somewheres that the stock was white, but i didnt think it was. Anyways, what will i gain, and what will i lose, if i switch to a white primary spring? I know that if i gain something, i will lose something, so what are the things that i will gain and loss? Thanks

I have a 2004 500, and my stock was a blue/green color. I changed to the white primary and basicly it revs higher before going into gear, Higher RPM. This would be like popping the clutch at a higher rpm than you would normaly with a manual clutch. If you goto HPD website they have a chart of some of the springs and there engagement rpms and shift points.
Rick ritter also made a post that lists some of the more popular springs and there info.

What you have IS a white spring.Look for a white dot on the ends. With your mods you might look for a HPD red/yellow primary,Violet secondary, and 10-58 shift weights.

THe red/yellow has a rather high engagement. With the DG pipe you will need to know the RPM range of the pipe to get it right .But you could go with the HPD brown and this would be a aggressive kit like they use on 500 Scramblers. You really need a tach to set these things right but it can be fun to try differant springs to see what they do.
