If you get the heelclicker, which seems to be the prefered clutch for the utilities you should be able to get it yourself, otherwise I think it is about 1.5 hours of shoptime. Your shop will tell you what there rate is but I think it is usually between 55.00 and 75.00 hr.
Like I said, you should be able to get it together yourself

I just installed a heelclicker on my 04.5 500 ho this afternoon ,it was easy to install ,but then I have played around with sled and atv clutches for a quite awhile ,but it would still be fairly easy for someone doing for the first time,I read a lot about this kit before I bought it and it seems like everyone likes them a lot ,I read of people with 400 sportsmans being able to wheelie in high range and some getting 5mph more topend ,I didn"t see either of these traits ,it won"t wheelie in high range ,but does in low ,but it would wheelie in low range before the kit with just a epi red pri.spring in it ,it does feel better in the mid range but I have lost about 2 mph on topend,I am using the reccomended settings for my model with 1.2 grams in shoulder only and orange pri.spring ,I think I should be able to make it better with some tinkering ,thats what is good about this kit it is very tuneable,it will just take some time.

I have one In My 04 400 Sportsman.. With the Stock Primary, You will Loose a RPMS, But Your engagement will be right off Idle.
With the Stock Spring In, I lost Top end also, but could climb a tree in low with just the weight of my thumb on the throttle.
However with the White Primary I have in Now, Yes I can wheelie in High (with Body English) and Low with no English.. I actually have problems taking off in high with the wheels turned because the front wheels just skim the ground for a bit If the throttle is nailed, and I cant steer.
The Beauty of this Kit is the adjustability of it.. I loved the Stock Blue Green Primary for tight woods riding, I used Low about 1/2 as much as before.. In Fact I hooked to a tree and Spun all 4-wheels in high range, That should give you an Idea of the Belt Grip this kit gives you.
For more top end or Mid range Acceleration, Stick with the 1.2's in the shoulder of the HeelClicker weights and go With the White Spring, or for a REALLY nice boost, go with the Orange Spring. The Orange Spring has Engagement a little too high for my likes and riding style however..
I have also spent about 12 hours Jetting my carb to perfection with the Dynojet ( dont always go with their Recommendations) Kit in it, Acceleration is Instant (as Instant as a 400 Sportsman Can be..L) I have No problems running with 500 HO's and Can get around 58 MPH with both My Wife AND I on the Machine

I just got back from trying the stock pri.spring in it ,I have to say it is much better it will now do 59 mph still wheelies in low( not quite as easily as with the orange spring) and it does kind of lift the front wheels in high range but definitely not what I would call a wheelie, but I am really liking the top speed 3 mph gain thats not bad and I also like the low engagement,I have a epi red spring I am going to try it is the same as polaris white and see how it works,I am feeling much better about my purchase today.

if i rememder right the white primary didnt increase your top end did it?is there much diffrence betwee the white spring and the kit? is it worth the extra money to buy the kit?you can change the primary spring without removind the clutch cant you?
thanks bubs

You Sure can buy Just a Different Primary Spring, but A good Kit gives you better side grip on the belt, increasing time between belt changes, giving you better durability, and capturing alot of lost Torque thats transferred through a slipping belt. If your running Stock Weights and no other modifications, whether you want to believe it or not, Your belt is Slipping during HArd acceleration at take off..

I am really starting to like this kit ,I just got back from taking my wife for a ride ,I still have the stock spring in ,my 500 really seems to like that spring with the heelclicker weights it seems to be getting stronger ,I don"t know what it is maybe it is getting used to shifting out fully ,but man does it go ,with the 2 of us on had it doing 62 mph on pavement ,very pleased ,it also pulls hard all the way up,finally I have bought a performance product that is worth the money.works for me anyway.

yes bubs you can change the primary spring without removing the clutch ,quite easy to do if you are mechanically inclined at all ,nothing to be scared of ,as for wether I think the kit is worth it or not I would say yes it has really woke my 500 up definitely in topspeed which if I remember correctly is what you where looking for.

trenchdigger do you have the stock spring in the secondary too or the one they send?did you loose any of the bottom end power ?were did you pick the kit up and what did it set you back?
My 500 will lift the front end with easy in high range now,i have to put one knee on the seat but i can walk it for 20' or 30' and im stock.maybe i should leave well enough alone. I raced a 600 a week ago and took him by almost a bike length until 55 mph or so then he walked me.
