04 scrambler
#1
a friend of mine just bought an 04 scrambler. are there any problems with them he should know about. also any maintenance tips. thanks in advance.
it will only be used for trail riding, no plans to modify it, unless it will improve belt life or reliability.

have him grease it every other ride or so and spray some teflon coated spray in the tie-rod ends.if he does that he should be good to go..im not sure about the fluid changes on the 500,but others will help..

Here are some simple rules I have learned.
1. Do not tow anything! You will fry belt and warp the cover.
2. If you jump the Scrammy be prepared to beak stuff.
3. When you hear an unusual noise, don't ignore it! Find what's messed up!

dont do any rock crawling , the belt doesnt like it to mutch!!! if you go in the mud bog your going to get FRICKIN DIRTY mine is a 2 stroke and is hard on gas. drain the starter case when you go in deep water , dont ad to many lights ,,,the alternator is kinda week , i put 2 h3 fog lights up front and tied them to my high beem switch . if the engine acts up it may very well be the etc . good luck

ONE MAJOR THING get an HPD chain tensioner and the chain wont need near as much maintanance and you can jump with more confidence.

As far as maintence goes, change the oil, trans fuild, front gearcase fluid, and hub fluid evey 100 hours. A valve adjustment is recommended at the same time. Keep an eye on your cv boots. Check your chain adjustment too. A chain tensionor really helps like ftwflh mentioned. There are substitutes to the Polaris fluids as well. You can run Mobil 1 0W-40 "European car formula" synthetic motor oil, or Amsoil 0W-40 "4 stroke formula" oil for the engine, Mobil 1 synthetic ATF or ATF tpye-F for the hubs (Mobil 1 works better), Amsoil Series 2000 Chaincase lube or Klotz makes a chaincase lube as well for the transmission, and any 80W-90 synthetic GL5 gear oil for the front diff
