Default Base Gasket defect???

I just rebuilt my Scrambler and looking at the factory base gasket it was ripped and sucking in air before it blew I noticed oil/gas on the clutch side at the base thought nothing of it just a overflow tube blow by.but what caused the engine to blow was the base gasket leaking and was getting to much air..but what is strange my buddy who rebuilt mine had another scrambler to rebuild and it did the same thing.when you hold both gaskets side by side they look identical

SO,if your base of your jug is wet change the base gasket before it is to late

And has anyone else had this problem???

LOL ---- And I freely admit it .. :-)

I have seen cometic has a *two side coated* metal gasket material they use for certain applications .
It is very similar to factory banshee base gaskets . I would think this material would work great on highly modified polaris base gaskets .

On a 400 polaris I always stick with factory gaskets , mainly because I have used some aftermarket ones and get a leaky head on occassion . I have stuck with polaris gaskets ever since . ---------However , I did order a new set available from Vesrah , they look pretty good, although I have not had time to bolt them on to one to check them out .

Speaking of polaris base gaskets . The factory ones have a bit of white sealer on them . The factory installs them sealer side up . I think it makes more sence sealer side down , since the cases come together on the bottom side and may be more likely for a little discrepency . ---- Maybe I am on a *which came first --the chicken or the egg thing * .

Rick

PS --- Blown base gasket may indicate the dreaded cracked cylinder . It is usually on the front left of the quad , as you sit on it .

I didn't do an exact count , but it looks like 12 . This is about average for us . We are having bad storms again today , hopefully we don't lose power like we did yesterday .
