Lets see . . .
Turning my head to the right I cannot see a rear "pumpkin" housing the drive gears and shaft. What "I" can see is the large metal "disk" that is mounted next to the sproket for protection of the chain. It looks much smaller than drive gears.
The tires resemble Titan 489s that came on the 95/96.
Anyone have the guys e-mail who sent in the picture so we can settle this quandry?

clindst,
You need to look again. The bike in the picture is chain drive. The trailer ball mount is a dead give away. On a shaft drive bike the mount comes off of the tube that runs all the way to the end of the left side of the axle. On a shaft drive bike you cannot see the axle on the left side. If you look in the picture you can see the axle plain as day. On a chain drive bike the mount mounts to the bolts on the rear axle bearing carrier. The exhaust is another give away. On an Xplorer the exhaust outlet goes straight down. On an Xpedition or Magnum the exhaust outlet turns back. The bike is an Xplorer 400. I own an Xplorer 400 and an Xpedition 425 and I am telling you that the bike in the picture is not a Xpedition, Magnum or any other shaft drive bike from Polaris.

It's probaly a '97 Xplorer 400 4x4:
1. Color
It's red, and the only other red models are the Xpedition 425, Xplorer 500, Magnum 425 2x4, and Sportsman 500. Can't be Xpedition because it's chain drive. Can't be Xplorer/Sportsman because it's straight axle. Can't be Magnum 425 2x4 because it has different tires.
2. Driveline
It's chain drive, and the new Xplorers are concentric which has the brake disc on the axle, this one doesn't have the disc on the axle so it must be pre-'99.
3. Exhaust
Only 2-strokes and Magnum 425's had that style exhaust. The 425 2x4 was red, chain drive, and had that style exhaust, but it can't be that because....
4. Tires
The Magnum 425 2x4 had Goodyears, not Dunlops, so it can't be that.
So, it must be a '96 Xplorer 400 4x4! The '97+ models were green, and the pre-'96 had Gen II body style.
