Default Plastic Repair

Well my friend crash his Predator. Went over a small jump and let off the gas so the back end decompressed tossing the tail into the air and it landed on it's nose then flipped onto it's back. the plastic on the right front fender broke right behind the light going back about 8 inches. for now he would like to just fix it and leave it as it. Do you guys know of any kind of bondo that sticks to this kind of plastic?

You have a couple of options, 3M Structural Adhesive works great. It's a 2 part epoxy that is thick enough to not just run off the area you are trying to fix. Just make sure to really rough up the repair area first. Second, you could "weld" the crack together from the back side with a soldering iron and some extra plastic.

I like this welding idea. can you buy blocks of plastic somewere?
Also will any soldering iron work? I'll have to look for a plastic welding 101 online.

Thanks for your help.

Hey blackraptor....if your knees are still bothering you, look in my pics....I removed the plastic pieces(knee bangers) and it seems to work much better, and the feel is a lot better too.

Cool Brad. I'll have to forward that info off to my buddy and see if he wants to do the same.

as for the welding and soldering iron.....just go to a hardware store and get an iron...I wouldn't get the cheapest but you should be able to get a decent one for ten bucks....give or take..as for plastic blocks...I don't know where you can get any at...but I've did this same process and found that the plastic on small buckets works great....they are like the buckets that tricker treaters use...not super strong....they have a lot of flex in them..

If your friend is going to get new plastic for it one day...for the adhesive I would use jb weld........I mean its not as pretty as two part epoxy but it holds good on plastic and if you can get it underneath you wont really see it anyway..

I use plastic zip ties. If you are lucky you can find the right color. I melt it back together on the top and bottom, sand it on the top and fill in any low spots.

Someone once mentioned using plastic knitting needles for "welding rod". They come in assorted colors. Try Walmart.

My plastic on my predator has a crack on the rear fender. The person I bought it from Plastic weld part of the fender, but the rest I repair it with some fiberglass repair in the inside of the fender and JB weld on the out side of the fender. Check out my pictures on my page. I have a picture of my rear fender repaired, but just the outside of the fender.
