Default Scrambler problem

A friend of mine is having some trouble with his scrambler(my old scrambler 500). When he hits the throttle say from 1/4 to 1/2 it will act like the reverse rev limiter is kicking in but its in forward. He also said it will do it from a dead stop and from there he can only get it to go about 10mph but it dont do it all the time it does it every now and then...
Any ideas or things to check out?

I'm going to look at the scrambler tomorrow.

Thanks

TRy to bypass the reverse limiter. Not sure on the newer models but on the old ones you could unplug the black wire and bypass the box.Plus check the pilot jet it could be plugged up.Or it could be as simple as a dirty air filter.

Same thing happened to my 2002 Trailblazer 250. All i did was unplug all the wires going into the reverse limiter and removed it. After i did that everything worked fine.

The reverse limiter just unplugs. But, to get the 4wd to work in reverse w/o pushing the button requires a little wire reworking

like a couple of others here have said, disable the reverse limiter by pulling the black wire off the box, or at least that is the way it was on my trailblazer. I think mine was caused by pressure washing the area where the box was, stumped me for a week until I tried pulling the wire.

TR- Take off the hood. Under there, you will see a connector with 2 wires coming in and 2 coming out. One of them should be a gray wire with an orange stripe. Unplug that one. The reverse override is now disabled. To get the 4wd to work in reverse w/o pushing the button is a little more involved though.

It actually sounds a fouled spark plug.
it would probably be the easyer problem to check first.
