Default scrambler bottom end help

hi guys,i need to change the lower connecting rod bearing on my 02 scrambler 400.i have to pull the motor out right?is it a big job to take it all apart and put back together correctly?im planning on sending my cylinder to rick ritter and have it tral ported,i was thinking maybe the lower end job is to much for me to take on,think if i sent rick my whole motor he would fix it up for me?

Yeah the whole motor has to come out.Rick will actually exchange you a crank that is ready to go for about $125.The pin has to be pressed out a new bearing installed and then press the pin back in.Doing the bottom end really isn't that bad.If you have a manual it is pretty simple.

The only problem is the nut behind the stator, but i have gotten by with a hammer and a punch. It is the slotted nut,and remember it is left hand threads. This is really the hardest part of the whole bottom end.Just be careful with the counter balancer not to damage or bend the shft to the water pump. You will be surprised at how easy the bottom end is to rebuild once you get it apart.

Report back when you get it done and tell us how it went. I am about to do the top end of my Xpedition and I too have never done it before. It should be a peice of cake though. I hope.

Top end is very, very easy. Hardest thing is compressing the rings correctly as you slide the cylinder back down over the piston. I had a buddy help me do this, however, I think there is a tool you can buy to help you compress the rings for you and you can do it all your self. Just take your time.
