Sportsman 500 clutch kit

I've heard the heal clicker is a good clutch kit for Sportsman 500 year 2000. What type of performance has anyone seen? I'm looking for top end and accelleration. Will this kit do it?

I picked one up but I am having problems with creep on my 2004.5 HO and I have given up on it for now. When I get more time I will try and figure it out. It appears that my problem is unique, maybe to the 2004.5 Your model it should be fine with filling the small amount of material off so the shoulder of the weight can shift out.
If your interested I will sell you mine for $125 w/ shipping

It is the same kit for the 500/600/700. The 600/700 you screw in more weight and use different springs. Click here for their website, you can download the manual. Everything is there, 3 weights, all screws and washers and I think 2 primary springs and 1 secondary spring for the EBS.
Dan at heel clicker will work with you to set it up. The manual is pretty straight forward. I have read where quite a few people have the kit in the older 500's and the 700 guys seem to really like it. I don't know whats up with my 2004.5 or if I am missing something. I am confident you'll like it.
I see your in Winnipeg, I'll be in Fargo on Thursday / Friday if you heading south (200 mile each way road trip)

I think I'll pass on it right now. Just bought a pipe. I don't know when I will decide to buy a clutch kit yet. For the 2000 Sportsman it looks like I would have to replace my clutch cover as well.
I just read in another forum that someone else had a creeping problem with SP500HO and they had the belt in backwards. Maybe check that?
I had a problem with mine creeping because a shim in the primary clutch was worn out and it allowed the belt to move in and out about 1/8".

No problem. I am going to take some time and get it set up. I have always been consious about belt direction but thanks for the idea. I have toned quite a few snowmobile clutches but the EBS one way is a little different animal when setting up belt to sheave clearance.

xcrider, Sportsman 500 creeping is a very common problem and may not be related to you clutch kit. Next time you have your clutch cover off check the end float on the EBS sprag clutch. The sprag comes from the factory with teflon spacing washers that wear out and in some cases wear quickly. The tolerance is only 0.005" once you have more wear than that the belt will jump a groove on the sprag and ride against the inside sheave causing it to drag.
If you would like to know how to fix it let me know.

Thanks for your suggestion. The problem is when it has the stock clucthing the belt drive doesn't move even when in neutral. Once the Heel Clicker is in with the weights and the new secondary spring it creeps in gear.
I wonder if the "sprag" moves with the heel clicker weights and it engaging the belt. I haven't measured with a feeler gauge the belt to sheave clearence yet. (changed it back to stock because i had a few trips to ride on). I have got to believe that the belt to sheave clearence is going to measure ok so that begs the question, how do you line up grooves on the belt with the sprag? Will a new belt do the trick? I put in the kit when the quad had 40 miles on it and it was very easy miles, low range way before needed and hardly any full throttle (break in riding).
Thanks for your help.

The sprag problem is easy to check. Remove the clutch cover, start the engine, rev it enough so the clutch engages and the belt rides up the sheaves. Back off the throttle and the belt must return to centre between both sheaves. There should be visible clearance between the belt and both sheaves. If the belt hugs the engine side sheave and there is no daylight between them you need to replace the Teflon shims on each end of the sprag.
Installing a new belt will fix it for a while until the new belt wears in then the problem returns. Also ensure the shims are replaces with the upgraded steel and fibre shims or the problem will return sooner than you would want.
xcrider, it sounds to me like you have this problem. Check it out before you get stuck in mud hole and can't change gears because of the drag on the clutch.
