Mine does that. I have to slow way down for small puddles.

 

Try putting some di-electric grease in your spark plug boot and on your ignition connections. This stuff repels water while still allowing electrical current to run through it. It can be bought at any autmotive store.

 

pretty sure it will be the cvt. if it happeans when it gets wet and u have to rev it which gets teh water off the belt. def check teh seal while ur at the plug.

i remeber i put the seal in backwards once when through and inch deep creek and that happean what ur describing. also happean on every other puddle. have u or th edealer ever taken apart the cvt? the seal might be put on wrong

 

Thanks for all the info everyone. I've got an appointment with the dealer in a couple of weeks. One of the staff on the phone even mentioned that maybe water is getting in the reverse cut-out switch..... even though I'm not in reverse. Anyway, I'm going to try to pinpoint it better, since it did it when I washed it, I'm going to pay more attention to what is getting when when she starts acting up.

 

I had this happen, get some water on the quad and it starts running bad. on mine it was the reverse box. I'm not sure how the 04 is wired and mine is a 400, but all I had to do was unplug the black wire coming out of the box, problem solved. my reverse speed limiter is gone but I still have to push the override for AWD in reverse.

If yours is wired the same way you may want to give that a try before ging to the dealer.

 

Certainly worth a try, and I wouldn't mind having it disconnected anyway. Can you elaborate though. "Black wire" out of what box? The box on the handlebar or somewhere else?

 

It doesn't sound like a spark problem...it sounds more like a fuel problem. Any chance that your carb isn't tight and getting watter in it? Sounds like one of the jets are clogged. I've been going in some crazy deep water and I've had no problems on mine. Check the plug wires to be sure just in case.

 

I will throw something out here... Possible that steam from the engine is entering the air intake?

had the same EXACT problem with my 04 scrambler 500. hit a fairly small puddle at half throttle,bike would do like 5mph full throttle.feel like it only revved in neutral full throttle to 2000 rpm's. had to ride half throttle for 10 minutes gradually gaining power till back to normal. i was told water in the carb. who knows. only did it that day,its been fine since
