Default Scambler hates to get wet

I recently purchased a barely used 04 Scrambler 500. Well, four times now when I've splashed through shallow water or today even when I washed it, it won't run right afterwards. It will idle, but if you try to give it gas, it just cuts out and looses power. If it sits for a while and dries out, it will go back to running okay. I realize it's likely something electrical getting wet, but where do I start? There are a lot of wires in there! Any advice will be appreciated!

Start by checking the plug wire and boot.

ftwflh--Okay, so a dumb question, I see the spark plug hiding up there, but how do I get access to it? I was going to check that.... should be okay since quad is fairly new, but maybe it is loose or something.

tbsleeper--I don't think it's the belt, as it's not slipping, the engine cuts out. It is exactly as you describe in your second post, where it just cuts out & bogs unless I let off the gas again.

The easiest way to get the plug out is honestly to take the front plastic and gas tank off. Kinda sucks, but they really buried that sucker in there

My wifes 2004 trailblazer does the same thing. I'll blast through a shallow creek on my Scrambler and when she goes through it, her trailblazer bogs down. She can give it full throttle and it will barely move. She has to put it in neutral and rev it up a few times and it's fine. I've gotten the belt wet on my Scrambler a couple times and it's not the same thing.

That's what Polaris recommends to dry out the CVT , put it into neutral and rev it. I'd check the seal. I don't have any problems in the water and I get in 4 inches or more over the floorboards.

he is talking about the engine,,,not the tranny

04scrammy trace the whole electrical system,,,and be sure it is right,,,use some 'wire drier' as well.

You should be able to take the right side tank panel off and work your hand up to the plug.
