Default 700 sportsman driveshaft noise

I just bought a 04 sportsman 700. I noticed it makes a clunking noise when you first give it gas. The noise sounds like a bad u joint or something. I called the dealer and they told me that all the 700's do this and that it is normal. Does anyone else hear this same noise or is the dealer lying. The machine only has 2 miles on it

Welcome to the forums! This seems to be a normal thing for the 700's. It is actually the clutch. The new EFI's are supposedly better with that noise due to the addition of a TEAM roller clutch, but some still make it. Not something to worry about.

Yes, the Sportsman 500 and 600's with EBS do the same thing. It's kind of annoying at first, but you get used to it after awhile, espcially since the 700 motor is so quiet it really stands out at first

Mine also clunks a bit when I let off the throttle, seems not to be a problem.

yea it has to do with the engine braking when the clutch puts pressure on the belt and the primary clutch kicks out or something like that my dealer told me that so i took off my tranny cover to see and he was right
