500 ho won't start
This thing has done this before. When I tried to start it this morning it back fired and will not restart. The last time I took it to the dealer and after poking around he decided to try to start it and it started that was about 6 mounths ago since then it has run great until today. Checked the plug and it seemed to be fine. Any ideas?

ok stupid question, but i have done this,,,,,
is your RUN/OFF switch in the right spot? i have cussed out my bike many a time cuz it wont start. And then i realize that i must have bumped the run-off switch. it was just a smidge off in one direction.
worth a check, sometimes the stupidest things will ruin your day.

All the lights work properly but I will check the switches to ensure they are in the right position. As for the valve lash is this something I can do or do I have to take it to my dealer. Sorry I know plenty about car engines but these things seem to work by pure magic.

500 ho won't start
I have a 2006 Sportsman 500 H.O. and had the same thing happen several times and I tried everything. Finally, I had to take the spark plug out and squirt starting fluid in the cylinder and it would fire right up every time. It had plenty of spark but would not fire up after back firing until I used the starting fluid. Now when I start it, I pull the choke out a little bit before trying to start it and I haven't had the problem since. Hope this helps you.

I just changed the plug, and the ATV now starts and runs, however, I can not runn the engine at a high RPM. Also, when I put the unit in gear, and accellerate, it starts to stall the engine.
Re the continuity test and the voltage measurement: I guess the voltage can be measures at the battery to ensure an output in the 13 -14 VDC range? Re coil continuity, where would you attach the VOM?
