Default 700 sportsman exhaust heat

i was riding a 03 700 and the heat from the exhaust was so bad that it was nessisary to ride with my leg out as far as i could get it. the plastic in that area was too hot to touch. is this normal and do all 700 do this?

I dont know if it is normal but there is a way to prevent that from happening....you can get it jet hot coated (I think that is what it is called ne ways....ill do a search to make sure) and it lowers the amount of heat that is produced by the pipe
