maybe polaris is using numbers off the crank. Which would be about right. I'm pretty sure most dynos have tested stock predators between 38 and 45 hp. I'm guessing 42 would be most correct. I think that number is even out of one of those imfanous hi-torque magazines . Therefore 50 horse at the crank would be about right.

I do like the predator but I dont think the predator has that much. I think they talk alot of bs about those predators as compared to others including raptors and dvx's. Well, of course they have alot but I'll believe it when i see the exact numbers ran right in front of my face.

A guy on the Bomb forum was bragging on the new 05 TLD Preds. He lost to one by 1/2 length on his stock 01 DS. Now if a stock 01 DS weighs more & has less than 50HP. How is the Pred only winning by that much. It should be a laugher with the Pred winning easily.
Nice quad, but 50 at the wheels???

Ya, I think that is what we've all kindof figured out. 42 HP makes more sense, not 50, yet 50 could be taken at the crank. But it isn't right for Polaris to say their Predator has 50 HP, which is just inflating the number to get more sales. They should be more straight forward; they created arguably one of the best sport quads out there, they don't need to inflate their number to sell it. I plan on buying one myself anyways!!!

I found out about the power to weight ratio and it being the highest from thier website, kindof. You have to download the brochure, which is like 23 MB, but it explains everything about all their ATV's. It showed a couple graphs too. I heard about the 50 HP deal from somebody else, but if you use the power to weight ratio you can figure out how they got it, although it is not the actual power at the wheels, but rather most likely about what the shaft horse power is, at the crank.

Uhm, power at the crank and power at the wheels are two different things. Polaris is most likely talking crank horsepower.

That's what I meant when I said power at the shaft, I meant crank, and that according to Polaris the Predator has 50 HP, which is most likely at the crank, and has 42 HP at the rear wheels. There is no way a stock sport quad is going to have 50 HP at the rear wheels, I mean, it is very unlikely. 42 sounds a bit more like it.
