Default drive belt tension

I have a 2004 scrambler, has some mods. I was wondering how tight the drive belt should be. I have already smoked the original and thought that maybe it was too loose. I have heard that a quad with EBS should be tight. Is this correct? I would hate to continue smoking belts. Also anyone run a parts unlimited belt? That is the one I bought and didn't know if it was worth it. Aslo how do you tightned the belt? Move the motor forward?
Thanks for any help!

With EBS the belt should never go completely slack. Without EBS, it will be fairly 'loose' with the engine off.
