Well, when I bought the winch a few weeks back I installed it using Cabela's mount and roller fairlead. The first time I went to use the winch the switch fouled up and I only had inward power. No problem, I e-mailed Jack @ Superwinch and he sent me a new rocker switch no charge.Well, before I got the switch, I needed to use it, so I did. I moved a 12' square chickenhouse by dragging it with the winch. It proved to be very impressive. Okay, when I go to let the winch free spool the pull **** breaks off.It was constructed poorly. It is a small ALUMINUM rod six inches or so long with a gear on the opposite end of the ****. All the **** does is disengage or pull the gear out from the motor. The only problem is that there is a small rod that goes through the **** end that holds the **** out so the winch can free spool. Well, the aluminum is very thin where the rod goes through and that's where it snapped. This is not a good thing. Luckily, I have a cousin who owns a machine shop and he made a new, thicker rod out of solid steel. It was only ten bucks too. Now that I have the winch together I love it. It is very powerful. I got stuck yesterday up to my racks and it pulled me out with a single line. That was worth all the hassle right there. It would have taken an hour to get out myself. So, spend the extra hundred bucks on a Warn if you like, but the Superwinch is very nice and I recommend it. Just make sure you get a newer model switch with it.

I had three friends that bought Super Winches, after a month all three of them threw them in a dumpster and bought Warn Winches. You will do the same inside 30 days, I guarantee it.

Maybe so, Quadfather; SuperDuty335 may soon "deep six" his Superwinch; however, I'm a little slow. My Superwinch ATV1500 has been in constant service since 1978 (in fairness, the ATV1500 has no freespool capability, like SuperDuty335's T1500, and uses a rotary, instead of a rocker, switch).

Not that I'm a brand fanatic; my Warn winches also have provided excellent service. (I confess I've committed inexcusable operator error with both brands!)

Now, where's that dumpster where your three friends jettisoned their Superwinches? I'd like to do a little scavenging!

Same here Treefarmer, I actually transferred my old X-1 Superwinch from my 88 to my 95 and again to my 99 Quads. I switched to a T-1500 about a year ago in an effort to shed some weight ( to offset my weight gain) It has performed well and gets regular use. The main problem with the rocker switches is they cannot handle the amperage well over time and repeated usage. I opted for a solenoid setup which has worked flawlessly and stands up really well in repeated use.
Now, race you to that dumpster......

I've had two Superwinch setups over the years and haven't had any problems.

An old friend had a superwinch on his honda 300 4x4 and he had nothing but trouble with it. He had problems with the power posts craking so it would fade out intermitantly. The superwinch also only comes with 25 feet of cable so that the winch is always being operated on the first or second layer on the spool. The warn winches have enough power to let you have 50 feet of cable. Have you ever tried using a ****** block with only 25 feet of cable? It is not much fun. Nothing like winching 3 feet at a time. :-)

Superduty,

I am glad your winch teats you well, I hope you don't have any of the above problems with yours.
