Close ratio tranny question?
I have been told that 1st gear (2.60) and 5th (.9) are the same ratios as the other Preds. The standard ratios are;
1st 2.60
2nd 1.70
3rd 1.30
4th 1.1
5th .9
On the close ratio trans the ratio gaps between the first 4 gears will be more even and there will be a larger gap between 4th and 5th. So it may go something like this;
1st 2.60
2nd 2.10
3rd 1.60
4th 1.20
5th .9
I think it will be great for all types of riding, like a 4 speed with overdrive.

Drag racer here thats the tool of choice for racing. I have one in my mustang and just love it, my banshee has a close ratio trans as well. Most drag cars and high performance vehicles have close ratios trannys.

Close ratio tranny question?
I have experience with close ratio trannies too. My bike is a regular 4 speed. My old man's bike is a 4 speed with a close ratio 2nd and 4th gear. They are a world of difference. His bike is built for the 1/4 mile run and the close ratio works great running that 1/4 mile. Mine will usually load the motor down in 3rd, but his keeps the motor up in RPMs, where it is building boost.

if the gears are closer than yes you will be shifting more... but its not like all your going to be doing is shifting.
