500 sportsman vs. 650 rincon

Displacement does not equal horsepower. For example, a Briggs 12 HP motor is 28.4 cubic inches, which is 465cc. Compare that to any ATV engine of the same size and you'll see a huge difference in HP.
It's an extreme example, but the point is that just because the Rincon has a larger engine, it doesn't necessarily make a lot more horsepower.

I know that engine size doesn't mean everything because of how tuned an engine is. The restriction of the exhaust, compression ration of the piston, how aggressive the cam and porting is,how high an engine rev's ,etc all play a part in how much power an engine makes. A rincon doesn't make much more hp than the SP500, but it makes a lot more torque. The SP500 makes around 36hp at the crank , while the rincon makes around 38hp. The rincon makes about 38 ft-lbs oftorque at the crank, while the SP makes 33ft-lbs of torque coming from the crank. As I noted in my earlier post, the rincon also weighs 100lbs less than the 500. I am not down-grading the 500, as I own one. The main point is a rincon is not in the same class as it plays a different role in the atv world as the sp, as well as cost much more. The older sp500's will go 60mph. I haven't topped mine out, as there is not enough space around where I live. The newer SP500's( I think starting w/ 04's have less top speed but more bottom-end power.) I hope I didn't confuse anyone too much.

lol...bad memory
ok lookin at the tests....here are the results
0-15 0-25 0-40
Rincon 1.66 sec 3.28 9.8
Sportsman 700 1.35 2.8 7.44
mustve been thinkin of sp700's...my b guys
those #'s there are the exact results, and this is on radar.
now i was reading in a diff review that the sportsman 500 HO stays right with the 700 until about 100 yards, and then the 700 kills the 500. so id imagine that the 500 wins against 650.
the rincon puts bout 23hp to the ground, 500 does bout mid 25ish...tranny kills it
