I have to know, are you satisfied with your Polaris. I had my polaris 500 ho for 2 weeks and while going about 25 down a gravel road in the rain, mine just quit. After being pulled back to camp by a Honda 350 rancher and troubleshooting down to the coil, I knew I had no spark and it had to be the coil. After bringing it to the shop, the mechanic affirmed it was the coil. That was the good news. The bad news is that the coil and wire are back ordered and it will be the 22nd before I get it back. Of course it has been in the shop for three weeks. After reading your posting about the wire, I feel like a dumb..ss. I could have it running three weeks ago, hell the same day it broke had I red the forums earlier. Then I could have put the new one on when it came in. don't have to take the tank off. Just the front plastic cover.

I love my 500 even if it did have this little problem. And no you do not have to take the tank off to get to the coil, but if your wire has not gone bad yet and you try to re-route it but it is stuck between the tank and frame, you may have to loosen or remove the tank to move the wire.

If you have any other shops around there I would check around. I had ordered the part and after 3 weeks I found it at another shop in a small town near me. I canceled the order and picked the part up the same day. And by the way, make sure they have the right part number. I got 2 different part numbers for this. The shop I ordered it from gave me a part number that ended up being a new head and that part number was the same as the one in the service manual. The shop I got it from said the part number was changed.

I checked all other dealers. Over 15 dealers waiting on coils around here. I called polaris on friday to make sure the parts were coming to the dealer and got them to give me two months longer on my warranty.
Thanks for the insight and help. Just wish I would have read your deal earlier, I'd be riding today.
thanks

i changed my wire and put a new plug in. The plug has spark and even after it has fouled it still sparks. I don't think it is my coil. I think i have a carburetor problem. any help would be appreciated

Hey twireman, tell me what your 500 HO is doing and what elevation you ride at. I had carb problems and had it apart so many times I still see it in my sleep....

my elevation is like 1200ft. at best. nothing signifigant at all. I put new spark plugs in and within 5 minutes of riding they are coal black and the quad is sputtering around. it never does actually die. That's about all i can really tell you. is there an outside adjustment on the carb?
i think it is running way to rich maybe. Any advice will be helpful. thanks

When you say it started a month ago was the weather hot and humid? My HO started acting up in the heat, bogging, plug black, lifted the clip on the needle two notches works good now. I'm dropping the main jet to a 147.5 and I ride 0-2000ft. They come jetted rich from the factory.....
