2000 scrambler 500 chain adjustment help please
#1
I just bought a used 2000 scrambler 500. I've never owned a quad before. I didn't get an owners manual with it. I got it for probably less than half of what its worth. I new there were a few things that had to be fixed on it. It needed brakes and a front universal joint. The rest was mostly cosmetic stuff that didn't HAVE to be done. The motor was very strong though and that was the main thing. It must have some sort of mods done to it because it will absolutely scream. It will do a wheelie at nothing and I am 220#.
Now after riding it a couple of weeks everything has been fine. I rode it one night and it was ok then the next morning my daughter got on it and she said something was wrong. so I checked it out and the chain is sooo loose it will actually jump over the teeth on the front cog every now and then. I though there would be an easy way to slide the back axle or something to take up the slack but I can't find any way to do it. I thought it was loose enough to take a link out of the chain but it's juuust tight enough that I can't do that. Anybody have any suggestions. Or is a new chain the best way to go.

i havent had my scrambler for a while, but i think there is 2 bolts that clamp down on the axel carrier... loosen those and there should be a place to knock back the axel like you sai... but its possible it could already be adjusted all the way already.

I just adjusted the chain on my 2003 yesterday. If the 2000 is the same there are 4 bolts to loosen. 2 big clamp bolts in the back and 2 smaller ones that face striaght down right under the brakes. Loosen them then rotate the axel housing to tighten the chain.
