Default strut housing seal/ hub problem

Anyone ever replace a strut housing seal? Mine is leaking and I am just wondering what I am in for. Any tips? Also, my hub wont kick in on the same side. I havent had a change to tear into it yet, but any ideas? It had fluid in it too. I am thinking that I should check for power to the hub first. Then I will take the hub apart and turn the 4wd on and see if the armature plate sticks to the magnet. Speaking of the armature plate, it looks a little worn. Could that be a cause? And ideas or diagnosis procedures would be greatly appreciated.

It's not a big deal at all.. The fact that your 4wd isn't kicking in is porbably due to the lack of fluid in your hub as a result of your leak. You will need to take your hub off , undo your tie rod end and ball joint. Remove your axle from the housing and use a seal puller to rip the old one out. Be very careful driving the new one in as it is a little awkward.. use a seal driver.

actually it is a slow leak. I replaced the hub seal hoping that was the problem. When I put it back together and refilled the fluid, thats when I tested the 4wd and it wouldnt kick on. It takes a few days before you start seeing the leak. So it has to be something besides the fluid. I think I will take the strut housing off and let the dealer replace the seal. That way if something goes wrong, they are replacing it not me. But I wonder if the magnet is bad?

You can try check the wries to make sure they are not pinched.. I know mine was and I couldn't see the brake but it was there.. I can't see that happening on both sides though.

Do you have a clamp that supports the wires and the break hose and attaches to one of the strut bolts? If you do make sure that the wire is not pinched there ..
