Hello eveyone, I cant tell you how greatful I am for the topics in the forum. I have learned so much and have so much more to learn. However, the mojority of the informatiom pertains to new models while I am looking for an older model 1995 on up. Where the sportsman, magnum, explorer lines still available. Where they still4 strokes with independent rear suspension and auto trans with single breaking.

Would really like some feedback and advice on what to look for in a used model and which one would serve me best. My primary use will be trail riding to go metal detecting and possibly overnight camping. I was thinking something comparable to the sportsman 335. I could sure use some guidance here.

Thanks
AJ

The pivotal year for product improvements was 1996. If you want the most reliable Polaris do no buy anything older than the 1996 model year.

Thor,
What are you referring to by "less maintenance"??

ajmetaldetectors,
I would personally avoid the 335. I know some people on here have them and they may be great machines, but they are extremely heavy for that small of a motor. It would be good if you could give us more information about what you're looking for in a quad as far as trail types, riding style, maintenance, etc.

Walexa,

I live in missouri so the type trails would be heavily treed, brush moderate hills, some rocky. Also, will be using around small creeks. Since I am a new user I dont think I will be getting into anything real heavy. Speed is not that big of deal but maybe I dont know better yet. I do want 4x4 though.

One thing is for sure, I care for my vehicles maticulously regardless of how hard I use them.

no not dreaming but be very careful. Well for a little over 4000 you could get a brand new Xplorer 250 4x4, I paid 4200 for mine and I have heard on here that some places are selling them new for 3995. might be worth checking out. I really liked it allot. and this way you have brand new. Also the Trail Boss is in that price range it is not 4x4 but , put some agressive tires on the back and it will go most anywhere.

xepathfinder,
what did you pay for your 500. I had one dealer shoot me a price for a 335 sportsman at $5995. I would really like to get into a 4 storke with independent rear suspension. I have read in the forum however that the explorer 400 is a great machine.

If you buy polaris, make sure you buy a 4-stroke.
