looking for 4 to 5 year old polaris

I bought mine in the beggining of the riding season up here after the snow goes and they don't groom the snowmobile trails anymore, I paid top dollar, i traded also, it was 6800. Up here right now they have 2000 SP500 for 5995. I would not but the 335 for 5995, you should be able to find the 2000 500's for darn close to that. The 400 SP is supposed to be out for 2001 with a 4 stroke. The IRS is awesome but to be honest I would have been just as happy with an Xplorer 400 or a Magnum 500, but I was trading and the SP500 was the best deal I could make with trading in my Xplorer 250.

From what Ive seen, older polaris 2-strokes can be quite the pain. I havent seen many broken polaris 4strokes. Id go with something dependable. The polaris trail-boss is a nice little machine, expesically for the price.

Before you buy anything, test drive several different models, preferably on the kind of terrain you expect to normaly ride (or worse).
*My* opinion: If you are riding in rocky areas, nothing beats IRS suspension. Everything else rides rough. I also read an interesting comment years ago about motorcycles: first-time buyers almost always wish they had bought a bigger one!
That said - after you've tried the rest, if you buy a Sportsman 500 you will never regret it (until the 700's come out
)
It rides nice, climbs rocks like nothing else, has power to spare, can haul you and your gear just about anywhere; as long as the trail is at least 48" wide.
Kansas City? You're only a days drive from Colorado mountains and *tons* of fun!

I bought a '98 Scrambler 400 a while back for $2700. Best money I ever spent. It'll go anywhere I point it. The 4x4 on demand has come in handy a couple of times. The 2 stroke has plenty of power and it's not a problem to top off the oil when I gas it up. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
