i just notices my rear end is loose again and both seals are out!! why does this keep happeaning?? i have replaced them 4 times but it keeps doing it??? can it be because teh axle is bent?? to much grease?? didnt put it back together right?? someone please tell me!!

 

something is rubbing and i dont think its from a bent axle... hondaslayer, the guy i ride with , his rear axle is bent but has never had a problem with bearings

when you put it back together make sure and have it nice and clean ... umm i dont think you can have too much grease., because there should be spots for it to come out when it gets full as your filling it up.

 

you cant pop those seals out by putting to much grease in them... i did it on my pred.

 

Are you over torqueing the bearings? That could cause the bearings to seize up if they are like front wheel bearings on an old rear drive car.

The 2 main things that make the bearings go out are WATER and over tightening the chinch bolts when you tighten your chain.40lbs with a hitch 30 without.17 on the caliper bolts.Wneh you change the bearings be sure you get the oring in place and greese the heck out of it.

Are you cranking the jam nuts to tight? With the rear end jacked up lightly tighten the jam nuts, spins the wheels a few times to seat the cup and cone together, loosen the jam nut and tighten them just beyond finger tight. The jam nuts should never be very tight that would defeat the purpose of the roller bearing. The bearing should actually have around .003" end play. pull it apart, are the bearings cracked or what? the way i was told by the dealer to do it was to put all together and when u fill it with grease pump it until the grease comes out from the seals. not much but a little. this is so that u know that the bearings are completely coated(packing them before hand dosnt hurt either) then teh grease will just wash off and each other time u grease it u should grease it until u hear the air rush out but make sure u dont keep pumpin cuz then the grease will come out blow your seals. two different dealer mechanics have told me this so im gonna trust there word. scott

 

well on my rear end when i regrease it up i pump it until grease is coming out next to my brake set up on the axel...and mine is just fine.

 

u should only pump the grease out liek that the first time. i bet it washes away alot faster now cuz it sounds like u blew your seals. u should hear the air pop otu then stop pumpin
