400 cylinder differences?
Another question for the experts:
I did some searching at partsland and see that the Cylinder for a '95 Scrambler 400 is a lot more expensive then for the 400 in other machines within a few years of it.
What makes the '95 scrambler cylinder so different?
Can I adapt one of the cheaper ones somehow?

Buy a '96 cylinder , and a '96 carb boot (about $45) This will attach to your quad perfectly .
The '96 cylinder has stronger front mounts , a better intake track angle , and some extra side inlet ports .
All in all a better cylinder , and if it costs less , a better way to go .

When you say carb boot, are you referring to what i see listed at partsland as a carb adapter?
See #16 on this page 1996-SCRAMBLER-CRANKCASE-and-CYLINDER
At the prices listed on parts land I would save around $100 if I get t he newer cylinder!

actually the '95 scrammy cylinder was the same as the explorer
400,83x72mm,,the stroke is longer, back then in '96 they came out
with the new jug wich is still the same til the end of production trail
blazer 400,83x70,so the stroke is shorter and a little different
porting shape, the old jug will produce more low grunt, but it is
less sporty and rev lower.if you wanna known i have a brand new 400
jug '96-00 jug right in the polaris box for sale.

Scramblered ,
You are correct , that the scrambler and explorer cylinders are identical when comparing different models in the same year .
The bore and stroke is 83mm x 70mm on all years all models . The port timing is identical on all years , the only difference in the porting is the addition of one port on each side of the intake leading into the transfer area and the different angle that the carb adapter and reed cage bolt to .

the 96 and newer jugs are stronger and better for more hp mods. I have a 95 scrambler that i did put a 96 jug on. if i remember right you can look at the botom of the jug you see deep impressions at the intake and exhaust sides. the 95's are deeper and don't hold up to high compresson, such as weisco pisto and milled down head. Most people who mess with polaris wont mess with the 95 cylinder. I have the aaen 440 kit, milled head and the aaen girdle kit. Get the 96-newer cylender, and the new boot. I believe aaren told me they wont tuch the 95 cylender. Also the newer ones have better porting.
good luck dude
