Default cooling fan,'99-'00 sportsman 500

Hi, I need to set up my question, so please, bear with me. The cooling fan motor on my 99 500 sportsman is cooked. I suspect the brushes got dirty, they are melted in place. Anyway, I called off road warehouse and ordered a fan. I got the part number off of the research I did on this forum(#30100515). I just got the new fan today. According to my invoice, it is a 9" water proof fan. The guy on the phone said he has gotten calls before on this and they use this fan on sportsman and bombardiar's as well (don't bash me on spelling bomb...). My question is, just how much fabrication is it gonna take to get this thing to fit? It doesn't even come close to fitting right now, it's too big. My other question, is there a design change in the cooling fan from 1999 to 2000? Anybody?

I am posting this here just so it will show up if this topic gets searched. The spal fan hooks up right to the radiator by using some 'quick ties' made for attaching oil coolers to a radiator. Any parts store will have them.
