Predator motor blown up, can anybody elaborate?
#1
one of my buddies has a 2004 Predator and the other day while driving at about half throttle in 5th gear the connecting rod snaps and totals his engine. Has anybody had a rod go on their Predator, or did he get a lemon? As you can imagine he's extremely upset and the dealer told him that they don't know if Polaris will cover it under his warantee or not, which makes him even more mad. Anyways, comments are welcome and he would be greatful for your support. Thanks.

If he has done nothing to the motor and is still under warrenty, Polaris should cover it. Most depends on what the atv looks like. Does it looked abused and not maintained. Also the dealer can make a big difference on how things go.

the way the machine looks has nothing to do with the inside of the engine... polaris WILL cover it if he is still under warrenty and the motor hasnt been cracked into.

Hozed, I think GE was stating that Polaris wants pics of the quad.....this tells them wether your quad was abused, along with your motor, thus making your rod be your fault.

i broken rod will not result because of not changing the oil... the only time looks comes into play is when your frame is bent... and they wanna see if it has been crashed... or anything else may be bent or broke... polaris wants pics to see if its rolled down a hill or something before they pay for everything... if his engine blew cause of dirt or wear... then yes what you guys says definitly applies, but not with a broken rod.

I'm not saying that not changing the oil is what caused the failure. He could of sucked in water, thus piston could not compress could of broken the rod. But when the dealer says they don't know if Polaris will cover it, sounds like there is more behind the story then being said. If this was just a case of a rod breaking, I can't see the dealer wondering if it will be covered or not.
By the way, how is you YFZ doing? Did you find the problem?
